Hi paperbanknotes, Transdniestria! If it's not because you have posted this note, we would not have known about this Moldavian territory. Initially thought maybe it was situated in Romania, just like Transylvania, which is famous for its Count Dracula stories, LOL. But thought otherwise when we saw the unit of currency was ruble. Nice interesting banknote here. Thanks alot for sharing.
Honestly I too knew very little about this nation, until I went and bought their banknotes back in the mid 90s. It is only with the Russian support and backing that they can survive that long.
Its nice to hear from you here again after a short hiatus. About banknotes. Still contemplating whether to go in more seriously because its comparatively more expensive compared to coins. And we have a good start in coins already but not so much in banknotes. Most of the old banknotes are so expensive nowadays. By the way, what do you think about error banknotes? Thanks alot for sharing, paperbanknotes.
Human nature, it’s really funny, isn’t it? Are you willing to pay extra, say for a brand new car with broken windows? I guess not, and why should we? Despite saying that, when come to collectibles, it’s entirely difference story. Even old and run down motor cycle can sell many time it’s original price when compared to new. I didn’t know that until a collector once told me that he lost a bid on an old motor cycle (1940s) on ebay. It was sold for USD50,000+, and it was not even in working condition. Many parts of the motor cycle were missing, but the main frame was still intact.
Well, error notes are unique and as usual in limited supply, just like those specimens. You will find most collectors would like to get them if the price is right. However, to me, such notes have limited secondary market mainly due to the selling price commanded in the first place. Of course I could be wrong on this. I understand that current RM series seen to have endless supply of error notes. It’s either poor quality control, or some corrupted employees trying to make a fast buck out of this.
Whether one collects this or not is entirely ones preference. For me, if I can get them at a fair price, yes I would. If not, I won’t loose any sleep over this.
You are right to say that banknotes collection can be quite expensive. It’s no point just getting one or 2 notes in a given series as most collectors would aim for a full set and a full set something can just break your bank account, even when it’s new. However, in my opinion, it is still better than paying RM100 (issue price) for a RM1 silver coin. I bought an Australian $2 silver proof coin in 1988 for A$25 (issue price then). This coin was first released in 1988. Only two years ago, I saw a local dealer selling the same coin for less than what I paid for some 20 years ago. Was this poor investment or just bad luck LOL!
Thanks alot for the information. Will be handy for us to make our decisions in future. Its just like going for a shopping frenzy during cheap sale. So many things to buy yet so limited cash available, lol. And with regards to you mentioning about that old 'junk' selling for 50k, ya, rubbish sells nowadays. This is exactly what a dealer who's also a good friend of my mine used to joke about. Like the saying goes, there's beauty in ugliness, haha. Thanks alot for sharing, paperbanknotes.
