Few years ago, it was reported that Sweden was moving towards a cashless society as banknotes and coins only represented 3% of the country's economy then. Is this still the case? Well, this is the third 100 Kronor printed since 2014. If the country was turning into a cashless society, then this is not showing it. This is the only prefix D sighted so far and I am not sure if other denominations are also reprinted.

...Sweden - 2016 Issues (Prefix C - 2015 Prints)

Issue Date: 03.10.2016
Signatures
Stefan Nils Magnus Ingves - Governor
Susanne Eberstein - Chairman of the General Council of the Riksbank – since 24.10.2014

These two notes are the final issue of the new series when it was first released on 01.10.2015. These two notes are printed with the letter prefix C. According to the central bank website, this new series was printed with 3 prefixes – ie Letter A, B and C. The letter represents the year the note was printed, for example, letter A was printed in 2013, B = 2014 and C = 2015.

It is believed that this is how all the notes were printed since 2013:-

2013 Letter A = 50 and 200 Kronor
2014 Letter B = full set from 20 Kronor to 1000 Kronor
2015 Letter C = 100 and 500 Kronor

It appears that many collectors of the Swedish new series are not aware of this, which was first issued in 2015. Not even those sellers from Sweden too. In addition to the above, you will also notice that the signatures for the 2015 and 2016 issues are not the same too. The signatures on these two notes are; -

Letter B – Stefan Nils Magnus Ingves (Governor – assumed office 01.01.2006) / Johan Gernandt (Chairman of the General Council of the Riksbank – since 19.10.2006);
Letter C – Stefan Nils Magnus Ingves (Governor) / Susanne Eberstein (Chairman of the General Council of the Riksbank – since 24.10.2014).

From the above, you can see that the B series were printed prior to Susanen Eberstein assuming office.

Below are the two notes printed in 2015 with letter prefix C. Each note is printed with a series of 9 digits. The first two digits indicate where the printing of the sheet the banknote was printed. The remaining 7 digits are the serial number of the note.

A very nice set of new series of notes even though it is not a full set yet. This is the first of the two stages for the release of the new series. These four notes (20, 50, 200 & 1000 Kronor) were released to the public on 1.10.2015. All notes depict a well known Swedish person on the front with common features such as yellowish omron rings on the left, the three Swedish crowns on the bottom right and all notes have a design of the map of Sweden on the back. It seems that letter B is the first prefix for this newly release, however it was reported that two notes - 50 and 200 Kronor, were also printed with prefix A. According to the central bank, those prefix A notes were first printed in 2013. Prefix B were printed in 2014. It is not sure why the bank has used the letter prefix to determine as the printing year. The height of each notes are all measured at 66mm and the length of each note is extended by approx. 6.9mm from 119.5mm (20 Kroner) to 154mm (1000 Kroner). Whilst a full set was printed for the 2014 year, the remaining two notes (100 and 500 Kroner) will be made available sometime in October 2016. There are not many countries left in western Europe that are still having it's own currency, and despite Sweden is a member of the EU community since 1.1.1995, they have yet to adopt the Euro currency system. In all only 3 western European nations still having it's own currency identity. The other two are the United Kingdom (including the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Gibraltar) and Denmark. Out of the current 28 EU members, only 19 member States are using the Euro.

Date of release:-
20, 50, 100, 200, 500 & 1000 Kronor = 01.10.2015 (ps. I can't be sure if the 100 and 500 Kronor were also released in 2015 together with all other denominations as it was not reported then until late 2016).
