This is a non circulating commemorative note issued on 01.09.2016 to celebrate the 160th birth of Ivan Yakovych Franko. Ivan Franko was a poet, writer, social and literary critic and also a political activist. He was born in 1856 in Nahuievychi (a small village in western Ukraine) and died in 1916 in Lemberg (Lviv - about 100 km north-east of Nahuievychi), aged 60. As this is a non circulating note, they are sold at 27 hryrnia each. About 20,000 of the notes are also sold in a simple folder at 30 hryrnia each. It is not sure if this note has any actual value if presented as payments for goods and services. However, given that the note is sold at a premium, it is unlikely anyone in the country will do that. A million notes printed for this commemorative issue. This is the second commemorative note issued since Ukraine's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
